Between Annecy and Allèves, in Haute-Savoie, the Semnoz massif can be recognised by its elongated shape, which earned it the name of the Saumon by the Romans. Its summit emerges from a dense forest that is exploited in a sustainable manner. The Semnoz is a medium-sized mountain range, with an altitude of no more than 1,699 metres, its highest point being the Crêt de Châtillon. Overlooking the town of Annecy, the Semnoz is part of the Bauges Natural Park and cannot be built on. However, it remains a favourite excursion destination for the people of Annecy, who can ski, hike, mountain bike, climb or ride horses, depending on the season. If you choose a hotel close to Annecy with a view of the Semnoz, you can also visit the Grande Jeanne deer park or the alpine botanical garden of the Maison du Semnoz. Skiers can take to the 18 downhill ski slopes accessible from Le Balcon des Alpes, a resort mainly frequented by people living in the area.
