Frequently Asked Questions
In Normandy, in the heart of the Pays de Bray, there is a beech forest covering an area of over 7000 hectares.
If you are a fan of green tourism and long walks in the forest, we suggest you stop at Les Grandes Ventes and choose a hotel on the edge of the Forêt d'Eawy.
The beech forest stretches across the whole plateau, between the valleys of the Varenne and the Béthune, and is crossed by a wide path 14 kilometres long, created in the 16th century, the Alley of the Limousins, a walker's paradise in all seasons.
In the past, oak was the main tree in this forest.
Used to supply the region's sawmills and glass factories and by the huchiers to make chests, the forest was gradually deforested.
In the 19th century, foresters replanted beech trees in place of the felled oaks, which transformed the appearance of the forest.
Today, it is once again being exploited in a sustainable manner and part of the area has been designated a Natura 2000 zone.
