Overnight stay. Very warm welcome, simple but comfortable room. However, the mattress is a little too soft and it's not practical to sleep well when two single beds are pushed together. Perfect dinner between service, decor and dishes, nothing to say! Excellent breakfast! At the same time, everything is made on site by a Michelin-starred chef and impeccable service, it was a real pleasure to taste these dishes.

We chose this hotel as our first stop on the Atlantic coast. We wanted a room with a sea view. We were given a room with a balcony, and from the balcony, we could see the ocean. The town of Brétingnolles was disappointing. It was a typical 20th-century holiday resort in France, but almost deserted when we were there. The hotel is located in the first row on the coast, separated from the water only by a road and a bike path. The architecture is banal, and the building is generally somewhat soulless. The seven-course dinner in the acclaimed 'star restaurant' was very ambitious, with some truly 'extraordinarily surprising' dishes, and very expensive – unfortunately, there was no alternative. The food was a celebration – we would and could only afford such an event once. Overall, we were left with a taste of a mixture of craftsmanship, exoticism, and disproportion. The disproportion here isn't related to the unusual creations or the presentation by a diverse and dedicated staff, but rather structural: You can really only eat a dinner like this once in a lifetime—otherwise, all important relationships shift, and life becomes grotesque. In fact, I didn't really need to eat it—I wasn't 'richer' by any experience.

We are sincerely sorry that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. Brétignolles-sur-Mer is indeed a quiet resort, especially outside of peak season – an ambiance that some guests appreciate, but which is not always what one hopes for on the first leg of a trip to the Atlantic coast.

Our chef and his team develop a creative, personal style of cuisine – a deliberately intense, narrative experience. We regret that this style was not the enrichment you had hoped for. While many guests experience this form of dining as a journey for the senses, we fully understand that such a menu can also be perceived as very unusual or overwhelming.

Small room, no sea view, bathroom without any charm, expensive breakfast with no choice

A very, very nice discovery. Very friendly and warm welcome, little touches in the room, cleanliness and impeccable service. Breakfast with few dishes but all exceptional: homemade jam or stewed fruit with that indescribable little extra, but which makes all the difference. Exceptional location of the hotel: our balcony overlooked the sea. Unforgettable stay! Unfortunately, we were not able to dine at the chef's table (one Michelin star) but we can't wait to come back!

Ideal location facing the ocean, easy to park, small but efficient room, decor and atmosphere a little dated, the hotel could do with a good freshening up both in the rooms, the reception and all the common areas. Smiling and friendly welcome. The Michelin-starred restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday and we came on a Tuesday evening... too bad... so we couldn't discover JM Perochon's cuisine. There is nevertheless a very good restaurant located 20 minutes walk (or 3 minutes by car) along the sea: L'Anse des Îlots. I highly recommend it for the food, the view, the welcome.

Regarding the rooms, you're right: a breath of fresh air was needed... and it's already blowing! We've renovated half of the hotel, including the La Sauzaie , Île d'Yeu , Suite Île d'Yeu and Suite Grand Large rooms. For the others, brand new bedding has been installed for even more comfort. The next phase of work is in the pipeline to modernize the common areas as well.
It's a shame that your visit coincided with the restaurant's closure... Please note that from July 14th to August 19th , we will only be closed on Monday lunchtimes/evenings and Tuesday lunchtimes : more chances to enjoy JM Perochon's Michelin-starred cuisine this summer!

As much as my wife and I enjoyed our first visit to this hotel a few months ago, our disappointment is great after this second stay. If the welcome is correct, neither unpleasant nor friendly, if the room meets our expectations, the restaurant has disappointed us. We don't remember booking for half board (I didn't check my reservation), but the lack of choice on the menu surprised us. We did not find in what was offered to us as a meal the flavors that had excited us during our first visit. But what is disastrous is the breakfast you have to compose yourself the day before (no buffet). When we ask for an assortment of pastries, it is not to be entitled to just one; when we ask for bread, it is not to be entitled to a slice......; when you ask for orange juice, it is not to drink a single sip... and when you want to pay for your stay, it is more than unpleasant to have to wait more than twenty minutes for someone to present at the counter to collect your payment. We have the impression that this hotel has not yet found (or lost) its positioning, between an establishment of great comfort, even luxury for the restaurant, and a hotel with much more ordinary services. It's a shame. It's disappointing.

Hotel ideally located facing the sea. The restaurant is magnificent with inventive cuisine. Despite a late reservation, we were able to take advantage of the Valentine's Day menu and seats facing the bay.
Very disappointed ! Evening stopover which turns into a meal tray, without being notified in advance. Used to coming to this hotel for the quality of its restaurant, I had the unpleasant surprise once there to be told that it is now a meal tray that will be delivered to the room around 7/7: 30. Even if the quality of the platter is excellent, I will no longer make a detour to come to this establishment.
Very disappointed with the meal! Pretty presentations but without flavor (from starter to dessert). As for breakfast, you have to ask for it otherwise you get the bare minimum because there is no buffet.
