Breakfast and Dinner where expensive options so we chose to eat out in the lovely city of Brantome and enjoyed the lively atmosphere and wine bars.

A priori no elevator, cardiac caution. For dinner, the surprise menu may be suitable for a trendy clientele, for my part I abstained, but it is true that I may be a little conservative. Classy hotel for a reasonable price.

Room in an annex with digicode. You have to cross the road for breakfast in the hotel. Room worn. Ridiculously small toilet not suitable for adults. Not to mention the price of breakfast at 18 €.

A real pleasure to return to this establishment for New Year's Eve dinner. The management and the staff are very friendly, smiling and attentive to the customer, the young chef in the kitchen knew how to delight our taste buds with the presentation, the quality and the flavors of the dishes. The food does not match the accommodation. Terrine of foie gras unworthy of Périgord, ordinary breakfast, no tablecloth on the tables at dinner... pretentious prices. The soul of Charbonnel is well and truly gone.

Despite the description, no heating in the bathroom, around 17/18 degrees, a little too cool for the season. And in the morning no heating or hot water for the shower. Damage . Ditto for the apologies, none...

Very nice experience, I put 5 stars because I can not put more. Superb restaurant served in a magnificent room, you really feel good there. On arrival, an excellent and smiling welcome from the reception staff and the manager of the Charbonnel. The staff is professional, attentive and friendly. The cuisine is exquisite, with succulent dishes from appetizers to dessert, including wine. A big thank you to Stéphane, for your good recommendations on food & wine pairings. I recommend and I will come back without hesitation. A little nod to chef Éric for his surprise dishes, it's just the joy of having a great chef in the kitchen. Cheer.

The establishment is ideally located, overlooking the Dronne, and if by chance you can have a room with a balcony, it is idyllic. The staff, both on the hotel and restaurant side, is at your service. The young manager is charming and attentive. Nevertheless, we were very disappointed by the restaurant that we had, admittedly perhaps idealized, after having stayed there four times when it was run by the Charbonnels. Times change, but we found the prices too high compared to the dishes on offer and the cuisine sometimes lacks flavor (foie gras lacks smoothness). Offering appetizers to accompany wine as an aperitif would not jeopardize your finances. We might come back, but would we take half board? To have only two choices of dishes out of four consecutive dinners is little, and to vary, you have to choose dishes or menus at an extra charge, which increases the budget considerably. Obviously, we are in Brantôme and the charming place probably partly explains these excessive prices. By way of comparison, allow me to inform you that I went to dinner yesterday in my very touristy region also at a starred restaurant (château de Sully). the first menu offered is 46 euros with appetizer, appetizer, starter, main course, dessert, sweets without taking aperitif and coffee. Small gestures contribute to loyalty.
The menu is overpriced
I have already stayed in this hotel, (2 nights this summer), I had a room facing the river. This room was rather spacious, the bathroom pleasant and "modern". The food is always excellent and the service impeccable. I came back in October because I had been fully satisfied. I booked this night in October via the Logis site. I admit I was very surprised to find myself in the "annex" ....... not necessarily pleasant to walk 50m to go to dinner or lunch. Deuxio, the room is small, the bathroom tiny, hard to say otherwise. The shower protection door is such that after I showered the bathroom was flooded. In short, I am very disappointed with this stay and I probably wouldn't have made reservations if I had been told that I was staying outside the hotel. In addition, I specify that my travels are professional, the office that I had in each of the occupied rooms is very small, really very impractical to put a computer and some documents, if not impossible. In addition, there is no parking, which is even a little "space" for a 3 star in my opinion, but I can understand that the geography of the place motivates that. In all the hotels where I go, there is something to make a coffee or a tea, not in this hotel. This is of course not vital...... These remarks do not call into question the friendliness and professionalism of the staff.
Just one downside regarding the bathroom. A bath towel and two hand towels for 2 people. A little tight and no bath mat or wall for the bathtub. It splashed a lot

A hotel on a human scale with this family atmosphere, which is disappearing these days. The elegant lounge, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the river, the hotel exudes the charm of yesteryear, while being spacious, bright, with a modern twist. The rooms are immaculately clean. I traveled with my parents-in-law, in their fifties: perfectly received. The restaurant: just excellent!

The staff in this hotel are ecexceptional as was our dining experience we had a terrace and enjoyed watching the coypu with her babies and a Kingfisher.The Hotel is spotless and comfy beds.

Passing through this hotel, we spent the night in an annex where it was impossible to sleep. Noise in another room on several occasions. Very small room; WC where you bump your head; very little space in the shower. Cleanliness to review. Disappointing hotel part but fortunately very good catering. JM.P

A welcome stay at one of our favourite towns
Pleasant establishment, efficient and friendly welcome. Smiling and attentive staff… however some reasons for dissatisfaction for the price of the room: a strong smell of detergent was present in our room n40, traces of humidity (mold) were visible in the bathroom, the room does not did not have air conditioning necessary for these high temperatures, We were called back the day of our departure to check that we had not left with the keys to the rooms without the reception having first questioned the chambermaids. Otherwise, the table (restaurant) is excellent!

DINNERS ON THE TERRACE VERY PLEASANT; Too bad the rooms in the annex are not air-conditioned, with very cramped bathrooms. In any case, I think that a stay at the Hotel Charbonnel is preferable outside July-August, because BRANTOME is really too crowded at this time...

Small room hotel by the river, very well placed. Exceptional dinner with real harmony in the course of the menu, a real treat for the taste buds and a great discovery of local wine. A perfect breakfast also, just like the stay! We highly recommend.

This is a beautifully located hotel right in the heart of the lovely town of Brantome, with charming rooms (albeit lacking any tea making facilities or minibar) and gorgeous views over the river to the magnificent benedictine abby. The wifi was patchy but serviceable in the lobby. The restaurant on the terrace is worth a visit and there is free parking about 7 minutes walk down the road. There is a very good little cafe around the corner (Co Thé Café) on Rue de Victor Hugo, which made excellent coffee!! Apart from a small problem with check-out time which left us half an hour late to start our onward journey, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful hotel and would recommend it to anyone wishing to spend a few days in this very attractive little town.

Staff very smiling and caring. The rooms are very decent and very clean. Despite the lack of air conditioning, being at the water's edge allowed us to have a good night's sleep. A small downside regarding the lack of a lift, but the staff immediately offered to take the suitcase up, given a health problem. When in the restaurant, everything is qualitative. We will return

This is a lovely hotel in a superb location in Brantome, itself a beautiful place. The staff were a delight and our room was very well presented, clean and with good facilities and high quality.
For dinner on the terrace we had the Truffe Menu which was excellent but the service was very slow, perhaps because of a staff shortage but overall we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Charbonnel.

Hello, very good stay at the Charbonnel hotel, friendly, efficient quality reception, the room was well appointed, well decorated, clean and modern. Note, quality bedding with a 160 cm bed and very soft satin cotton sheets. We had seen on the river Dronne with balcony which is appreciable and breakfast on the terrace. The restaurant meal was tasty and the service pleasant.

We booked our stay through booking.com. We received confirmation that included the address of the hotel.
However when we arrived we were told our booking was for the annexe which is across the road in another street, which over looked the car park.
The annexe is not mentioned or shown in any photographs, and we felt let down and misled.
The hotel staff suggested contacting booking.com to complain, but I feel this is a deliberate loophole the hotel are happy to live with.
The staff, the room and the food were all excellent, which has made writing a poor review even harder, but I wonder
how many bookings the hotel would get if they showed honest phot of the ugly annexe as opposed to the beautiful hotel.
Love this hotel.! Comfortable, stylish, friendly and superb location. Housekeeping service is excellent. Only reason we did not eat in hotel during this visit was because one of our party has food “intolerances”, and we had to seek out places that served food he could eat (no meat, dairy etc). A smaller “petit dejeuner” would also be nice (around 8 or 9 Euros?) For those who do not need the full buffet. Otherwise, a superb visit! Hope to come back soon. ❤️ Eve and Roger Fletcher

We stayed three days in Brantôme in this renowned establishment. Very pleasant welcome, all the staff caring and carrying luggage upstairs with a smile, Clear and very clean room, the glass bottle of water is a pleasant surprise. Catering "at the top" inventive cuisine with fine regional products, the signature of the chef is present in each dish, from starters to desserts, perfection. Continental breakfast on the terrace overlooking the river, carrying wild ducks and birds...or in the room, beautifully decorated... Looking back, the great quality of this place is... The discreet, but effective presence of all the staff, always very friendly and smiling, on the lookout for your slightest gesture or desire. This team from the porter, to the butler yet very serious, does not seem at work but in a respectful happy broom where you are the star....

We stayed as a family at this hotel. 4 bedrooms. The quality of the rooms is exceptional. Perfect bedding and idyllic setting on the banks of the Dronne. The atmosphere is both luxurious and family. You feel at home during breakfast or dinner. Stylish, attentive and very efficient staff. It's been a long time since my suitcase was carried to our room. Exceptional terrace. We enjoyed our stay in Hotel Charbonnel very much. Their kitchen is beyond compare. We had our favorite meals here in all the 3 weeks of our travel including a week in Paris! Perfection comes from this kitchen!!!!! Our room had a balcony overlooking the river which we enjoyed but the room was very small and felt a bit cramped. Beds and linens were very soft and the bed very comfortable with the right amount of firmness. Parking is a bit of a walk so drop your luggage off first then park in the free lot across the river. When we were staying there was a flea market going on which was a lot of fun.

We knew the restaurant in the heyday of the Charbonnel brothers. The quality of the cuisine, its diversity, its generosity have made its reputation. Today, the price of 58 euros of the menu that was presented to us, is unrelated to the statement of the menu and its real quality. The menu should have been offered at 38 euros, breakfast at 12 euros (and not 15). Half board for two people was therefore - in our opinion - overcharged by 46 euros. We can all the more compare that we came out of two nights at the Domaine de Monrecour in Saint-Vincent-de-Cosse. Wifi does not work in room 29.
Gorgeous place. Very nice view from the terrace. The staff are lovely, the hospitality and the food wonderful. And, icing on the cake, dogs are welcome. Very good stay.
Given the annual carnival on the weekend of May 1st. which does not allow you to enjoy the tranquility of the place the value for money is not at the top. An offer at a reduced price or a commercial discount would have been appreciated. On the other hand, excellent reception. Excellent massage and very good value for money for the restaurant.

Quality hotel, located on the island in the heart of the city, and we had a quiet room, with a balcony overlooking the Dronne river... Well-equipped, comfortable room, good bedding, spacious bathroom. The restaurant is just as essential. Several dishes were particularly successful. Pleasant and efficient staff.
Location and atmosphere/styling of the hotel is perfect. Staff appeared happy and always willing to provide great service, especially the Hotel Manageress. Her attention to detail and identifying our needs was much appreciated. However, on a negative note, we felt uncomfortable, even unsafe with the shower in a small bathtub. The bath was slippery and a shower mat may help. Remove the bath and install a shower cubicle would be better. The other negative, in our opinion, is the restaurant is overpriced compared to nearby establishments. In general, a very pleasing stay at your hotel.
