Good hotel and a good stopover. The staff is pleasant and the room met expectations. The restaurant was good and the dining room was nice.
The hotel is very well located in the city, easy to access, with parking within the walls. The welcome is very pleasant and the food is of high quality, with friendly and attentive staff.
Excellent location, hotel could do with a make over to update it. Fantastic staff and food. Excellent parking and bike storage facilities. The food was amazing and excellent value for money though the breakfast was very limited with little selection. As a diabetic there was little on offer. If you had breakfast later in the time slot there would be no croissants or pastries left. The evening dinner was superb quality and the waiting staff were excellent however we were staying 6 nights and the menu remains the same for the month with 3 choices in each course so we could only eat in 3 nights. All staff including the manager were superb.

Jocelyn and his team are the highlight. Very welcoming, very personalised and a joy to liaise with. He recommended and helped make reservations for restaurants and even opened the restaurant for us on a bank holiday knowing all other places would be closed. The hotel is a bit dated and in need of a refresh. I had breakfast on day 1 but opted not to for the remainder of my stay. I would definitely stay again, Jocelyn and the staff are the reason for that.
Friendly welcome and service. Poor or non-existent internet connection. The restaurant's regional menu was tempting, but the rump steak was not up to scratch due to its lack of tenderness (neither for my wife nor for me) despite being perfectly cooked.

Passing through for a business stopover, we were upgraded upon arrival, large and clean room. Good restaurant, it was a little cool compared to the rooms. Everything was very good.

WARNING WARNING WARNING
We booked a room at the Le Grand Hotel for 27 May 2025 we booked this on 25 Oct 2024 this was one of 13 hotels we were booking for a European tour in 2025. They were all booked in date order relevant to our trip and booked through Booking.com. For reasons unknown to us the booking to stay at Le Grand was made for the day we were making the booking (25 Oct) which is not the date we entered into the booking form which was 27 May 2025. We received a confirmation from them (attached) saying that we had been charged for the stay but we had obviously not stayed there nor intended to stay there on the 25 October 2024. We did not read this email until 26 October as it was one amongst many and we did not suspect anything to be amiss.
We informed Le Grand of the error and we were confident it was not our fault but regardless they refused to refund and called it a no show which is strange as they also charged us for 2 meals we never had. It took us weeks to get a refund just on the meals.
All we know for sure is that we did not book that date they say and clearly there has been an error somewhere either in booking.com system or at the hotel end, but out of the 13 bookings made for the rest of the trip there were no other mistakes so we do not believe it was our error. The fact that Le grand refused to compromise on what was an error shows how little they care about customer service and to actually charge for meals when there was no one there to consume them suggests who may be at fault , they clearly have management problems.
The moral of this story is when dealing with Le Grand DO NOT give your credit card details up front or pay for anything in advance as you do not know what you will be charged for or when they simply cannot be trusted.
The staff is very welcoming and professional, doing everything they can to provide us with a quality stay.
The room smelled of tobacco. We had dinner at the restaurant. The dinner was good but the service was average. We had a bottle of wine. No one let us taste the wine or served it to us. The waiter should stop saying yeah. Breakfast was a disappointment. The tables were not set. There was one table of 4 left when there were 2 of us. A guest had to eat breakfast on an unset table.

Comfortable hotel with a quality restaurant. The staff is very welcoming, professional and pleasant. The bedding is comfortable, the room is spacious. The only downside is the low-ceilinged bathroom which could do with a bit of a makeover but remains functional.
Our original room on ground floor was not ready so we were given a 1st floor room - we preferred the first room.
Our room was ok for an overnight stay, everything worked except one bedside reading lamp - no a/c but a fan was provided.
The dining room and all public areas were very good and there was adequate parking. The restaurant and menu is very good and all
staff were friendly and attentive.
Our only complaint with the food is that we would have liked more of a variety of vegetables with our main courses - my steak was excellent but there was little else of substance with it.

I spent 3 nights in this very well-run establishment where all the staff are very welcoming. The room is spacious and impeccably clean. The restaurant is of a good standard and well placed in terms of quality/price. The location near the river and close to the city center perfect.

I found the hotel by chance. I wanted a place to stay with my elderly mum as we wanted to do a pilgrimage to Pontmain and there was nothing in the area with easy access.
The room was very large with excellent access for my elderly mum as it was at ground level. The bathroom was a wet room which was again really large. As I phoned n the afternoon of our arrival, the staff were not able to provide us with 2 single beds. however, the bed was a large kingsize bed and Mum and I were able to share it with no problem.
We chose the more expensive menu and the food was absolutely delicious and I have already recommended eating there to friends if they visit the area. The welcome and service were excellent whether it was when we first arrived, during our dinner, at breakfast time or when we paid.
The only thing that I would improve is the decor as personally, I would add more colour to the walls in the way of paintings.

Having left to work in Seine Maritime, I returned to recharge my batteries - unfortunately too rarely - in my native country. So I'm staying at the Grand Hôtel de Mayenne obviously...

There are positive points in the catering section where the meals are well prepared every evening the menu changes the price remains correct at €26. Hotel side 'standard' room of good size, but the whole remains aging. Problem with WC power, slow reloading and random operation. To have hot water, you have to run around 10 liters of water (too bad for the planet). The 160 bed is good!! But once two people are seated on the bed, if one moves, the other feels it!! No elevator, if you are on the first floor with heavy suitcases an employee carries the suitcase for you, it's you at the start. Price-wise it seems normal to me.
