Your stay at the Demeures & Châteaux de la Richerie
But of all these wonders, the Puy du Fou remains the local pride and joy. Crowned the best theme park in the world, it takes you on a journey through time, from the Roman Empire to the Great War.
Set at the top of a hillside overlooking the Maine River, Château de la Richerie watches over an ancient road dating back to the Gallic era. The name of the estate evokes the memory of its first occupant, Richard, whose name gives the residence its specific title.
Throughout the ages, the shadow of the Marquis Barrin de la Galissionnière has hovered with particular distinction. A distinguished sailor from 1710, his career took him to the four corners of the globe, all the way to the shores of Canada. He even became its governor in 1747. But his most precious legacy to France was his passion for botany. A member of the Académie des Sciences, he introduced the magnolia to France before his death in 1756. After a fire, Mr Damour, the eminent general physician of the Nantes hospitals, became the owner in 1802.
Under his stewardship in the 18th century, the château rose from the ashes. He rebuilt it using the stones and screed of the old residence. The neo-Gothic chapel, inspired by his wife's fervent devotion, was also added to the architectural picture.
For more than two centuries, the Damour family shaped and restored the estate, preserving its prestige. However, in 2006, a wind of renewal blew over the château with the arrival of Mr and Mrs JONCHERAY. Visionary hoteliers, they undertook a delicate metamorphosis, transforming this heritage jewel into an exceptional hotel.
A 19th-century art house, Château de la Richerie dazzles as much by its exterior architecture as by its interior design. Tucked away in a 94-hectare setting, each of its 20 rooms is uniquely decorated, finely blending modernity with the authentic charm of the place. In homage to the Marquis Barrin de la Galissonnière, some of the rooms are named after delicate flowers: Begonia, Magnolia, Stellata. During your stay, let yourself be charmed by the subtle nuances of the Empire furniture, enhanced by exquisite floral touches. The Soulangeana junior suite boasts a four-poster bed worthy of fairytales, as does the Sassafra double room. The Galissonnière luxury room boasts a private terrace with a panoramic view over the park.
Some spaces also evoke the travels of the current owners. They combine the exoticism of carved wood, as in the Congo room, with splashes of colour. In the annex called "La Miellerie", the rooms reveal a poetic play with nature. They bear evocative names such as 'Bourdon', 'Frelon' and 'Abeille'.
During the day, the estate satisfies your desire for well-being, with its seasonal indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna. The park, meanwhile, is an invitation to daydream and unwind, with its waterways, signposted paths and ponds. In terms of food and drink, the estate offers a choice of platters and lunches, as well as a selection of wines at the bar. Local produce from the Vendée is of course given pride of place. And every morning, breakfast is served in a room lulled by the elegance of the 1930s. Reduce

satisfied with our stay the hotel has a large park, a swimming pool and free parking. Good breakfast and friendly staff. The only downside concerns the accessibility of the rooms for elderly or disabled people because there are no elevators and suitcases sometimes have to be carried to the second floor. On the other hand, the room is spacious and well-equipped.
Very beautiful, calm and relaxing place, pleasant atmosphere.
Positive: First of all, I would like to point out that despite the name, this is not a castle, but a mansion with outbuildings. That said, the place is very beautiful and peaceful. It is 30 minutes from Hellfest and 20 minutes from Puy du Fou, which is a very comfortable location for anyone who wants to enjoy both. Negative: Clearly, it was impossible to sleep in our room the first night. Our room was on the 2nd floor under the eaves; it was a real furnace. We only managed to sleep around 3 a.m. once the coolness of the night had fallen. The television light started flashing around 4 a.m.... This woke us up. The only window in the room being a skylight, there is only a curtain attached to the cutaway that lets in the sunlight, as the sun rises at 6 a.m. at this time. No refrigerator or bottled water for a night at over €160, clearly much too expensive given the lack of comfort offered. I went to see the manager the next morning to report all these problems. The response was simple: "The hotel is full and I am not responsible for the heat." I agree on the substance, but welcoming guests into a room at 30° (without exaggerating) knowingly and without putting real means in place is not normal. A means of blocking out the light should have been put in place, but this was not done. Only the television was unplugged at my request. Regarding breakfast, it is sold for €15 per person but does not offer omelets, eggs or a real savory buffet. It is therefore very expensive to eat a pastry and drink a coffee. Furthermore, it is served between 8am and 10am, which is very late for anyone wanting to go to Puy du Fou or just enjoy the whole day. For the evening meal, there is no real restaurant. Dishes are offered but it is necessary to notify in advance and do not expect to eat after 8pm because it is too late. To put it simply, it is up to you to adapt to the schedule of the manager and her team.
Unbearable heat, booking 2 rooms, presence of hornets, forced to move mattresses to sleep in one room after a long fight with the hornets
“An absolutely magnificent place, decorated with exceptional refinement. Every detail is tastefully considered, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and warm. The welcome was impeccable: warm, attentive, and professional. A place I recommend without the slightest hesitation.”
