A magnificent mountain view, peace and quiet, relaxation, and all the services offered for your well-being. Not to mention a fantastic team that welcomes you.
Overall our stay was good
The hotel was effectively closed on our arrival at the correct time. No-staff were present and guests were expected to find a basket containing a key and then follow inadequate instructions to find their room. Although we booked months in advance we were only told that the restaurant would be closed by booking.com message two days before arrival (when we were already en route). When I replied politely that it would have helped to know this at the time of our booking, I received a sarcastic reply that the staff should be allowed one night a week off! The only help that was offered was to be told there were a number of options (none specified) in the nearest town 10 kms away.
This accommodation was listed on Booking.com, but the hotel was closed. We couldn't get any updates on our reservation, even though it had been confirmed. Upon arrival, there was no one to greet us, no indication of a temporary closure, and no response by phone or message. We finally received a response from Booking.com after submitting a complaint around 10:30 PM, stating that the hotel was unable to accommodate us after waiting for three hours without any updates. The only other guests told us that the hotel had closed that afternoon and that neither the kitchens nor the spa were open. The owner finally replied to a message the following morning, only to tell me that his scheduling system is infallible and that my reservation shouldn't have been possible... 30 minutes after I had cancelled it. Unprofessional.
What we liked: The stunning, unobstructed view of the Vosges mountains, the simple but spacious and clean room, like the rest of the establishment, the peace and quiet, the very pleasant sauna in a small cabin next to the Finnish bath, and the very decent and good restaurant. The warm Munster cheese with seeds is worth the trip—simply delicious! Dinner in front of the wood-burning stove was truly delightful. What we didn't like: The owner was only mildly friendly, which is a shame. The Finnish bath wasn't very clean. No flip-flops were offered, even though you have to go outside to get to it. We were offered a drink in the sauna, but they forgot about us... When it came time to pay, not even a quick word to ask if everything was alright. We were also disappointed by the "famous" vol-au-vent. The béchamel sauce was very good, but the three small quenelles around it were rather bland, and there was no sweetbread, for example. This is just my opinion, but for me, it's not THE best Alsatian bouchée à la reine that I've eaten.
Fantastic location and magnificent view with a Finnish sauna and outdoor bath overlooking the snow. Delicious meals, excellent staff, and superb bedding.
Superb stay at Bouton d'Or
Quiet hidden in the Vosges Mountains. Food traditional and generous at dinner. Breakfast basic and not lots of choices. Neglected maintenance all over, from damaged and loose emergency call box at the bottom of the stairway to the rooms to loose wired electric line in the bathroom. And watch out for low-hanging beams in some upstairs bedrooms.
View the hotel's answerQuelle mauvaise surprise votre commentaire, tout allait bien jusqu'à votre départ...
Man sollte unbedingt Französisch sprechen.
Madame,
cordialement,

Very cozy, quiet, very clean, very functional hotel, everything you need for an unforgettable stay with very attentive staff, top-notch bedding. The best hotel I have ever stayed in, my husband will be back, he was very satisfied.

We only spent one night there, so the stay was too short to enjoy all the hotel facilities (sauna, Finnish bath for example).
