We had a very pleasant stay!
Good bedding, good breakfast with plenty of sweet and savory choices, and a good restaurant.
Very friendly staff. Very good set menu and lunchtime set menu was excellent value. A real bonus to have on site parking in a main town. The only negative is the very uncomfortable pillows and uncomfortable bed as I hardly slept for two nights.
A very pleasant stopover with a very comfortable room, a lovely dinner, and a generous and delicious breakfast. One small question: why aren't the same teas and herbal teas available in the room as those offered at breakfast?
Small and somewhat dated room
Nice hotel but disappointed with the room. Very poorly soundproofed; you can hear what's happening in the other rooms. Otherwise, the room and bathroom were clean and functional. Breakfast was very good. The staff were welcoming and very friendly.

Overall, it was fine, but the duvet wasn't thick enough and the air conditioning was very noisy, making the room a bit cold. It's a shame the decor doesn't reflect the region. Photos of San Francisco or elsewhere are completely out of place in Fontenay. The decor could use updating.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Le Fontarabie. The room was very clean, pleasant, and spacious, with impeccable bedding that allowed us to rest perfectly. We also dined there and were delighted: the menu was very varied and, above all, very well prepared. My husband and I each chose a different three-course meal (starter, main, and dessert), and everything was absolutely excellent: delicious, refined, and succulent dishes. The staff was very kind and welcoming. We will be back!
We spent one night at the hotel; the room was renovated and very quiet.
The welcome was excellent, and the staff were friendly and professional. However, the ground-floor room was poorly lit (one of the lights by the bed wasn't working) and the overall lighting was too dim (impossible to read). Paying extra for a small dog is fine, but there was no water bowl provided like in most restaurants, nor a small mat for dogs in the room. What was the point of this extra charge?

Consistently excellent for the past 5 years, this overnight stay offers great value for money. The food was very good and there was plenty of choice for an overnight stay. The room was practical and quiet, and there was private parking.
For a disabled person, the floor is very slippery after showering...

No dinner available on Sunday night so we had to go out in the pouring rain again but no local restaurants open so ended up with takeaway pizzas in our room

The service was very good, it's a shame the soundproofing between rooms was poor. On the last morning, I heard the vibrating alarm on the phone in the next room, so it was one alarm for two rooms.

On the main street of Fontenay-le-Comte, the hotel is easy to find and has easy parking. The facade is attractive and the welcome is pleasant. The room wasn't huge, but it was well decorated and very clean, as was the bathroom. The food was decent, but most importantly, all the staff were friendly and efficient.

The room we stayed in is dated. Old wallpaper from the 70s and 80s that is peeling off everywhere. The decor needs to be refreshed. The bedding is pretty good. We were woken up at 5:30-6:00 am by a truck that stayed for almost 45 minutes. The breakfast is not "wow" for a 3-star hotel (not even scrambled eggs or cooked bacon). It's pretty well located in Fontenay.

Warm welcome for my second one night stay. Very clean comfortable room with new fittings throughout. Good to have a large courtyard car park in this town centre hotel. The town itself is of historical interest.

Excellent from A to Z. From the welcome to the flexible hours. The service and quality of the breakfasts are as expected.
Perfect for an overnight stop, about 4 hours driving from Ouistreham. The room was on the ground floor in an annexe behind the hotel, which was perfectly placed for parking and letting the dog out when needed. The only problem was that the only way to ventilate the room at nighttime was to leave the door open, which is not ideal.
The only other glitch was that having booked a table for dinner on line, and given our estimated time of arrival, the hotel staff did not seem to be aware of any of this information and had clearly wasted time calling me while I was driving.
Good. But the door connecting to the shower room is poorly positioned and noisy!

The bedding wasn't great. But the welcome was very good and the service very good. The bathroom felt a bit like a hospital. But we were probably in a secondary room because we had our dog with us. Otherwise, the hotel was very decent and professional.

We had requested a triple room based on the visual on the website. But the visual corresponds to the family room. The room was too cramped and the extra bed was placed under the air conditioning, which we couldn't turn off due to the high temperatures during our stay. The woman who took care of breakfast was very friendly! The charging stations in the hotel are much more expensive than the stations in the city. But the parking lot is quiet.

Very good reception in general. Very convenient parking. Only 1 set of towels (1 large and 1 small) in the bathroom. For 2 people, it would be better to have 2 sets. No place to put the toiletry bags in the bathroom. Pleasant service in the restaurant. On the other hand, it would be good to allow time to consume the aperitif before serving the dishes.
We recommend this hotel and its restaurant for the quality of its welcome and service. The staff were very professional. A good meal with quality products. A successful stay.
The hotel lives up to its reputation. The only drawback for guests is the fact that reception is closed on Sunday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Excellent restaurant, spotlessly clean and charming staff
We hadn’t stayed here before but very impressed from time of arrival with shaded car parking, reception staff could not have been more helpful. Bedroom very attractive and comfortable. Our small dog was welcomed into the hotel including the restaurant. Restaurant food was very good as was the service and choice. Plenty of areas for dog’s walk in our outside the property.

Perfect night despite an access problem due to the fact that it was the music festival and access to the city center was prohibited to cars by the municipality. Charming and attentive staff. I will come back with pleasure.

We appreciated the value for money and the friendly service. We were disappointed that the restaurant wasn't closed on Sundays. One small drawback: no storage space in the bathroom.
The hotel was very nice, but there was a small problem at the restaurant. I ordered an ice cream sundae and received a strawberry shortcake instead. The waitress asked me if it was the same thing and if I wanted, she added a scoop of ice cream. It's not always pleasant to be treated like an idiot.
The tables should be arranged in a rectangle for a reunion group, rather than a circle which isn't very practical for seeing each other! The meals served at the table weren't hot enough either evening! A few appetizers would have been appreciated beforehand. The shower in the bathroom doesn't work (replacing the bathtub with a shower would be best).
Little light in the bathroom, defective light bulb that was not replaced. On the menu were shrimps called gambas with dry rice probably from the day before yesterday. A steak of beef requested medium rare and served very well cooked! A receptionist not very friendly!

Charming hotel, excellent restaurant, and delightful staff. Always well received in Vendée, and this welcome was professional, friendly, and accommodating. I recommend it with my eyes closed.
Very clean and spacious room. Friendly reception and waiting staff. However one member of staff (possibly the Manager) was quite rude in that he was on reception and didn't even bother to look up at us when we were passing through, he was too busy with his mobile phone, he also frequently walked past our group during the evenings in the bar and restaurant and not once did he even acknowledge us even though we were staying for several evenings. All the other staff at this hotel were very pleasant and friendly.

The only downside is the small bike storage area. We had to lock our bikes to the fire escape railings. Since the parking lot is closed at night, it would be helpful to have bike racks protected from the rain (perhaps under a shed?).
Everything is more than correct
Misleading photo and not at all related to the room which dated from the 70s, catastrophic soundproofing, broken air conditioning, very average quality of bedding, very disappointing...
It was hot during the night; it's a shame we couldn't use the air conditioning, but luckily we could! The rooms overlooking the courtyard are quiet; we were able to sleep with the window open.
3 nights in complete peace and quiet. Breakfast OK. Electric car charging OK. Restaurant OK. Staff friendly and welcoming. In short, what more could you ask for? The duvet, at our request, was immediately replaced with a sheet and a blanket.
Quality and flexibility of the welcome, professional and friendly staff. Very quiet room (on the interior courtyard). The location of the hotel near the city center is perfect, the parking closed at night is a plus. Eating outside when the weather permits is very enjoyable. In summary, I am satisfied with my two-night stay and I recommend the Fontarabie to anyone visiting the region.
