Great place - lovely staff
Despite its exceptional location, the hotel is very disappointing. Average welcome from the hotel, ground floor room smelling strongly of humidity, curtains showing white traces of humidity. Mediocre cleanliness. The restaurant was exceptional as well as the service in a warm and friendly atmosphere!
There are some welcome items missing in the room, such as Kleenex. Too bad the toilets are not separate from the bathroom. When one person uses the toilet, the other cannot enter the bathroom.
Hotel inside the Citadel that allows you to fully enjoy this exceptional site! Comfortable and clean room (a little noise from the doors slamming in the corridor...), copious and varied breakfast taken in a room with a view of the river: pure bliss!

We had a short but excellent time at the Hotel "La Citadelle". Brief, but which allowed us to appreciate the excellence of the welcome, from all the members of staff that we met, whether on the hotel or restaurant side. Cleanliness of the premises, relaxed general atmosphere, while being very professional, really impeccable! As for the restaurant... impeccable quality, very reasonable prices, all topped off once again by excellent service, whether for dinner or for breakfast. And finally, an almost idyllic setting, in a relaxing calm, a little "out of time"! Thank you to the whole Team, and there is no doubt that we will come back!!!

Perfectly located establishment in a magnificent historic setting on the water's edge. Very welcoming, smiling and helpful staff. Perfect!
The establishment is large and well located but one big downside: the proximity of the swimming pool to the rooms is really annoying. You can't open the window of the room to air or breathe, there are people on deckchairs 10 cm from you. That evening, the dishes arrived lukewarm if not cold at the table. It's a shame for an establishment of this quality.
By arrival I got not the room as requested but after discussion they reduced the price so....finally all was OK service by dinner and breakfast was excellent
The location was superb and the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we found that the hotel did not live up to the Logis grading. It is tired in places eg skirting boards and around windows in the corridor. I reported an access panel that had fallen out and whilst it was replaced the area around it was not cleaned up. There was a hole in our duvet cover and the drain to the shower was blocked and therefore the bathroom floor flooded. The menu for dinner didn’t reflect the variety and standards in other ‘restaurants savoureux’ we have eaten in and we found it very disappointing.
Warm and personalized welcome. All the staff were smiling, helpful and professional. Very nice hotel with comfortable and spacious rooms. A special mention for the restaurant staff! Keep it up. See you soon for a new stay.

Had visited before (2008) and vowed to return. Beautiful setting, friendly staff, great food, lovely views.
Couple of improvement areas. 1) Cleanliness of swimming pool. 2) Response to dietary enquiries. One of our party cannot eat gluten and two are vegetarian. I requested information at three different times before our stay: on booking, by email and in the hotel's pre-visit survey. No response on any occasion :(

Allergic to trip advisor (which is very easy to buy (and which cuts into your margin in the process), I prefer the Michelin guide which sent me to you. I observed that I thus obtained a good quality/quality ratio). Price, knowing that you shouldn't ask for the moon!
Green swimming pool, unusable. A lemonade or other welcome drink would have been nice. Trees beautiful view over the estuary. The rooms are very small and old. Very friendly welcome.

Given the price of the rooms, a mini bar would be appreciated...and quality equipment: defective shower support, bathroom trash can which will need to be replaced! We expected more quality given the price of the room!

Very good overall, corresponds to the services announced, a little renovation in the corridors of the rooms and in the rooms also would be a plus. Reception and catering are at the top though!, thank you.
Very nice home. But for a hotel of this price we would like a few things: cups in the bathroom to rinse your teeth (even Ibis offers them...), water that doesn't take 10 minutes to heat up when you shower... And a slightly more spacious and tidy bicycle garage. Do you know that nowadays it's not just the poor who travel by bicycle?

We have stayed at Hotel La Citadelle for twenty years or more and can thoroughly recommend it for comfort, service, food, and friendliness. A really great hotel in a perfect setting, and ideally situated for the history buff.
We were pleasantly welcomed. All the staff very nice.
Very warm welcome whether at the hotel reception or in the restaurant. Beautiful decoration, particularly in the common areas and obviously a beautiful view of the Gironde! Some suggestions for improvement: - a chair is missing in the room (in 302 in any case) - a hook to hang clothes on would be welcome, both on the bedroom side and on the bathroom side - the shower mixer is not very intuitive (but OK not easy to change) - a bathtub outlet bar would not be too much (comfort and safety, whatever the age!) - "lazy" sink drain (reported to reception)

A perfectly run hotel restaurant, an impeccable welcome, we even carry your suitcase to your room (which is very rare!)
We have been coming here for many years. Staff are always very welcoming and friendly and the dinner and breakfast was first class.
Hotel with magnificent views and surroundings and swimming pool but very noisy (bouboum music) in the outdoor restaurant until 10:30 p.m. completely incongruous in view of the natural setting which is sufficient in itself. Even when we closed the windows, we could hear the boom-thump of the bass. Very thin partition (phone call from roommate until 1:30 a.m.). Just 2 small towels in the bathroom. No one warned us that there was a demonstration the next morning. Forced to move the car at 5:30 a.m. and not 7:30 a.m. as advised by the hostess so as not to be locked in the citadel with the car.
Having made the reservation with half-board accommodation, when we arrived at the hotel, the half-board menu did not suit us and we took the daily menu, which was cheaper than half-board. We thank the manager for her understanding and for removing half board from us. It's a shame that Logis does not specify the content of half-board when booking.
We had a great time. The only downside was that some noise woke us up at times. A shelf or small piece of furniture in the bathroom would be a plus. But overall we were very satisfied.

Requires serious renovation In addition, avoid signing METRO receipt slips in front of the customer!! Especially when the service at the restaurant was mediocre with the added bonus of a hair on the plate! Only the site is magical, we must stop relying on the magic of the site..

When I booked, they were supposed to send me a confirmation email which I did not receive. Two days before our arrival I called saying that I did not have confirmation and that I was worried about it: I was told, I am sending you an email that I never received. Housekeeping: certainly the floor and the bed were clean but the pouf was covered in dust as was the picture on the wall... No prior information on how to access the parking lot (password, circuit). This hotel benefits from its exceptional location but is resting on its laurels.

Logis Hôtel la Citadelle has a unique location beside the river Dordogne. It is a very charming place and the staff who run it are friendly and efficient and they do everything with a smile! Excellent. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The place is beautiful and would make a great fit for a higher level hotel. The general image is a little neglected, the breakfast with poorly presented and undesirable products. Hygiene is not worthy of a three star. We see that the establishment is trying to do well, but the last touch is missing. The carpeted bedroom floor is not pleasant.

Great setting, right in the heart of the Citadel! The pool area is top notch and very well laid out, with a view of the river. Only downside during our stay, the disgusting smell in our bathroom.
Nothing to do with the site. Cleanliness of the room leaves something to be desired. We are pressed to eat without explanation of menus and wine advice. We had the impression of disturbing the staff whose only concern was to finish the service. The information sheet had not been taken into account

Superb quiet hotel in the citadel. Haven of peace, pretty swimming pool and splendid view of the estuary. Really rich and delicious breakfast. Very pleasant and smiling staff. On the other hand, very disappointing dinner experience, if the view is splendid, what is on the plate is not. Mediocre starter and main course replaced by unprepared sea bream with no flavors. Dessert without much interest either. In short, I highly recommend this address for accommodation but not for dinner.

The staff weren't very welcoming - apart from the girl on reception when we arrived. Lots of fidgety staff but little really caring about customers. The breakfast in particular was quite pitiful - sandwich bread and stale cakes, apples as the only fruit, capricious coffee machine ... and no one to ensure restocking and assist customers as is traditionally the case in hotels. After our stay at Logis de Broceliande, this experience had nothing to do with it!

Nice staff, we eat very well in this hotel and the location is very good. But unfortunately we sleep very badly. We hear everything that happens outside on the terrace and in the hallway. That's a shame..

Despite the recent negative reviews, we took the risk, and we found a magical place for heritage lovers, available and welcoming staff and ultimately an ideal setting for open-minded people. Remember to ask for the access terminal code because you will be sleeping within the Vauban citadel, listed as a UNESCO heritage site. The ferry is 3 minutes away for the crossing to the Medoc but the coast of Bourg (Blaye) is also worth the detour.

I have never been so disappointed with a hotel, especially in relation to the service offered and the asking price, it's theft, there were flying cockroaches in the spiders' room. I reported it and showed photos and videos of the cockroaches They put a smoke bomb on me and I slept in the same room with the insecticide product, mandatory half-board and in the restaurant you are made to understand that you do not have de Romain menu than the others, with a superior air, the pool had all green edges And in the end I am asked for more than the price booked on the internet when the slightest thing would have been a commercial gesture given the horrible stay we had We were happy to leave and what a horrible bad memory
We had a problem at breakfast. It took a very long time to start up the Coffee Machine Dispenser. Not too many choices, and overpriced.

Hotel very well located, in the heart of the citadel with a remarkable view of the estuary. This is its strong point. The welcome was just adequate at the reception and the catering expensive for its content. Accompaniment of dishes insufficient in quantity and at breakfast at first absence of black tea (a sachet of lime blossom and mint green tea only...nothing to wake up to!). In the morning, awakening by the delivery men on the Place d'Armes side around 6 a.m.
The staff includes very friendly and polite foreign trainees, on the other hand the rest of the French are not very warm and speak curtly (ready-made sentences, automatic and soulless) the breakfast / buffet is correct, plentiful, without surprise. .the room is comfortable, the bathroom too but among the free accessories: (too many cotton swabs not necessary:)

A few coat hooks would be appreciated in the bedroom. As well as fresh water and a kettle with tea, coffee and mixes. This is becoming the norm in 3 star hotels.

Hotel in a potentially brilliant location, but let down by its high price, the mediocre quality of the room and the excessive noise levels that went on late into the evening. The dining experience looked so disappointing and so expensive that we went and found other places to eat on each of the days that we stayed - the impression was one of a chef trying to cook beyond their ability. When we arrived the corridors and our room were stinking of essential oils. These irritate existing breathing problems. We asked at reception and were assured there were no such devices in the room. Eventually we found an oil diffuser in the bathroom. By day 3 the stench had subsided sufficiently to be comfortable in the room. The rooms lack storage space - we stayed in a family room, it had only one small wardrobe, one shelf and no drawer space at all.
Very charming establishment. Point of attention: cleanliness (floor that sticks to the DPJ + check under the beds ...) Lovely staff. In my opinion, it just lacks a presentation of the hotel during check-in (swimming pool + breakfast times).

During the discovery weekend, we had an excellent stay at the Hôtel de la Citadelle. The setting is wonderful! The very welcoming staff, from the reservation by telephone to the departure of the hotel, through the breakfast! Impeccable restoration (and hearty) We will be back!
Very nice establishment, friendly and warm welcome, you really feel on vacation. The only downside was the soundproofing of the room, we of course heard our neighbor snore. For the rest everything is perfect, the setting, the swimming pool and the terrace are magnificent. It is on we will come back.

We were only passing through for one night. It is clear that the location of the hotel benefits from an exceptional setting. Moreover, with the sun, the decor is splendid. The only downside... THE ROOM.... The decor of the room is disappointing... Closet;,,. narrow, only two hangers with another hanger combination for several pants or skirts... very inconvenient. Bathroom very pleasing to the eye,,, but;;; the shower floor is not grippy and very slippery (risk of accident), and the slope of the shower does not retain the water in the shower, resulting in water flowing into the bathroom . PQ of poor quality... Flush does not work well... to be reviewed with the tank; ! The reception is quite good, Breakfast is quite sufficient and varied.

Soundproofing in rooms can be an issue
I understand the desire to save energy, especially in low season when the hotel is not full. However, starting the air conditioning in heating mode a few hours before arrival for occupied rooms would not be a luxury to avoid having to run it all night to raise the temperature. Take advantage of the calm season to maintain the hotel, such as replacing the out of order hair dryer in the room, or washing the sanitary facilities a little more thoroughly (the cleaning staff should not be very rigorous: hair in the basin, turns of the wc not clean ... In short, the hotel could be top, but it is necessary to put the follow-up to be up to par On the breakfast side, this one is correct for the price offered, but could be a little better with quality products and above all no break at 8:30 As for dinner it was cold in the room

This hotel had been recommended to us but we are very disappointed with this step. When we arrived in the room we noticed that the ceiling was black above the bed and we understood why since it was raining in the room and in several places in this one and in the hotel. Not even a kindness on the part of the management such as an aperitif offered for example, only a change of room telling us that it should not rain in the second but not sure. The setting is beautiful, the correct menu but lacks warmth from the staff

We chose this hotel because it is rated "Elegance" and the restaurant "Tasty". It probably owes this rating to its exceptional location, which we recognize without any problem.
