Excellent family run hotel. Very warm and welcoming. Fabulous rooms and great food. Lovely location. Have stayed many times and looking forward to staying many more.
Fantastic
Peaceful, comfortable and welcoming.
We stayed at Hotel de France in La Chartre Sue la Loire and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel has a fascinating history linked to the Le Mans 24 Hour race which we enjoyed. The staff, rooms. No restaurant dining were faultless.
We were so disappointed by this tired, grubby hotel and the complete lack of welcome that we didn't stay - we turned around and drove the six hours back to Le Shuttle & went home.
The toilet was in a cupboard facing the bed, so small that we couldn't close the door when using it.
The 'walk-in' shower was up two narrow, slippery stairs - a deathtrap when you come out of the shower with wet feet.
The rooms were up a steep, narrow staircase that had a rope instead of a hand rail - impossible to get up and down to and from our room with confidence.
We have visited this hotel on many occasions and it never disappoint .
See you next year 🥰
I was disappointed in my room which was in the annexe. It was quite cold and smelt damp. Although the bed was comfortable. The shower was good with plenty of hot water. The restaurant was excellent and we had a fabulous dinner.
Absolutely amazing. Better gets better. My stay was unexpected as broke down nearby. They accomodated my dog! Which was a miricle. The restaurant was super and staff so friendly. And I found a beautiful pool at the back....omg heavenly!
Not to mention I found out about the history of the hotel which again was a lovely surprise.
VERY COMFORTABLE STAYT
Superb hotel with great rooms and food delcious
Lovely welcome. Room extremely comfortable, a bit cramped but it was a basic room. Good value. Restaurant was excellent as were the staff.
Very satisfying overnight stay! Friendly hotel in a pleasant setting. Everything was perfect for a good time.
Lovely hotel with lots of history and a nice family feel.
The staff, restaurant and pool were all amazing. The room was a bit shabby and smelled very musty
I have stayed here twice. Beautiful location and filled with history. No doubt will visit again
Lovely historical hotel in a beautiful small town. The food was delicious and excellent service. We enjoyed using the pool and there are free pool towels available which we weren’t aware of. Being an older building some of the stairs/hallways were quite tired but room itself and restaurant was clean & comfortable.
Nice room with very comfortable bed. Enjoyable meal in the restaurant with excellent service. Good value tasty breakfast the following morning.
A very comfortable stay in a beautiful old hotel, fantastic base for exploring the Loire Valley. It made for a relaxing holiday which we were in need of!
Beautiful place nestled in the heart of the city
Excellent hotel in a lovely quiet village almost as if time had stopped very friendly staff, lively clean rooms and the restaurant served fantastic food very very good indeed
Very satisfied with the night spent at the Hotel de France in La Chartre-sur-le-Loir. We really appreciated the old-fashioned, charming side of this hotel, its excellent welcome from the manager, the breakfast manager who is inexhaustible on the epic 24 hours, the restaurant servers, young but attentive, caring, very invested in their work. Excellent breakfast, very good products, very good Kusmi tea and sand timers for the infusion times! Which is very rare and touching for tea lovers! Small downside for the dinner. The veal was very very firm..., the cold aioli (in fact a fish terrine) was tasteless, the veal sweetbread cut too small and the accompaniment of carrot brunoise was not appetizing, the 1000 white chocolate leaves was very industrial. The value for money for this dinner is not good. It's a shame because the room is welcoming, in the same vein as the rest of the hotel, another era full of charm.
Super evening meal. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Very clean and spacious room. I would recommend without hesitation, and will certainly return.
Excellent hotel with good food and accommodation
We returned to the hotel having had a good previous experience. This is the only place to stay if your are interested in the 24 Hours as it is full of historical race photos. Everything is perfect!
Underwhelmed
Never disappoints
A very warm welcome and a real destination for motor sports enthusiasts
A slightly "old France" hotel in the good sense of the word, with lots of charm and history. The staff is friendly and welcoming. A charming place where we will happily return. The only tiny downside: everything is provided in the room for coffee lovers, but 1 or 2 herbal tea bags would be welcome for those who don't like coffee.
Perfectly acceptable hotel in a quiet part of Limoges
A wonderful hotel and atmospheric experience with a long history associated with Le Mans and the drivers/teams / supporters . Always enjoy our stays and the classic car enthusiasts who visit regularly
Excellent place for a short stay especially if you like classic cars!
Great Hotel, full of motoring history, only stayed 1 night as a stop over from driving holiday in Spain with friends, staff very welcoming, excellent service thoughout our stay, great swimming pool.
Hope we wern't too loud !!
Will be back with family in tow
This is a fabulous hotel. The room was well equipped and extremely comfortable, the large fan being particularly welcome in the heat. All the staff, reception, bar and restaurant are lovely, and dinner was outstanding.
A real treat.
This review is with regard to Hotel Plantagenet in Chinon, the first time at this hotel, which I believe has recently changed owners?
It is probably the worst hotel we have stayed in globally and we travel frequently. It was convenient for the Chinon classic car rally which is a real bonus, but the condition of the hotel and all the rooms in the annex are appalling, dated, dirty and require complete refurbishment.
The complete hotel requires serious investment and new management urgently, it is obvious it's been allowed or run down, and is no longer fit for purpose.
We will not return.
Friendly staff, great steak
Crowded breakfast at 9:00
Friendly, great room good food charming town
Where tranquility meets motor racing history. Lovely traditional French hotel and restaurant, with boutique riverside pool.
Fabulous hotel and experience . A joy to experience a the car memorabilia . Very pretty and comfortable room . Restaurant was delightful . Pool
Area b tranquil
Superb hotel, very warm and welcoming
Characterful hotel with excellent restaurant and very comfortable bed
This is a great friendly hotel, great restaurant and great service and food , breakfast also great
Classic building on charming main square in the village. Very efficient and friendly staff. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Everything very “French”. Full if character. Would thoroughly recommend.
An unmissable stop for lovers of beautiful cars!
Lovely old hotel with lots of Le Mans history from the 60’s and 70’s.
One of the best hotels I have stayed in during my many years of travelling.
Lovely room, great restaurant - very authentic with lovely service food and wine
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend
Cold meal on Monday evening In winter bathroom a real fridge In winter it's cold in the room
Nice stopover but unfortunately the restaurant was exceptionally closed (after the end of year holidays)
The hotel is nice and well located. The decoration is focused on motorsport, it adds character to the hotel. The staff is very welcoming.
Coming for an event, we asked to access the room earlier to be able to get ready and the hotel was kind enough to grant it to us, a huge thank you for that. Retro lovers, we were delighted by the atmosphere of the hotel. The deluxe room is spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is quite complete with fresh products. So we had a pleasant stay.
I think that the presentation of this hotel (Hotel de France in La Chartre sur le Loir) on the internet is confusing about the type of room offered and suggests that the prices displayed do not reflect the reality of the cost of the rooms. We found ourselves in a "mini classic" room which was really mini without a wardrobe and with a TV that did not work (room located in the Annex!!!). In addition, the meal served is very sad compared to the presentation made of it... Ronsard menu with a duck breast that had to be returned because it did not correspond to the desired cooking type and a slice of foie gras three cigarette papers thick for €17.... For dessert, a dish called by a Ronsard-style name but which is nothing more than a pale copy of chocolate profiteroles.... In short, a big disappointment that does not encourage me to return to this hotel restaurant.
Coming back here feels like coming home. Always a friendly welcome from all of the team. Wonderful servive
It is enough to say I recommended Hotel de France to a number of friends and family.
Our stay was really great - the motoring history, the dinner, the bar and all the staff were wonderful.
Well worth the half hour detour from the motorway at Le Mans.
Travelling with our dog we stayed in the annexe so didn't see the main bedrooms. Our room and bathroom were a bit tight but clean and in excellent condition.
A very lovely hotel with a good atmosphere.
We enjoyed staying here although felt the service on arrival and departure coukd have been improved
We enjoyed our meal and although the staff were busy, they were helpful during the meal service.
A great old French hotel with days gone historic vibe and a strongs "24hours of Le Mans" connection in many ways. Great vibe. Good restaurant and bistro, I recommend. And you will spot many nice oldtimers and other special , even hypercars, on the towns square in front of the hotel. I will be back to experience it all once again 😎
Lovely place but biased as been there dozens of times.
Lovely hotel, fab staff and great food!
Lovely Little Hotel Great Food and Nice Surroundings for a Short Break
Hotel old no hay Pisina as shown in the photo if 5 mins away and more than just a few of the hotel's restaurants are good for its baby prices and its double price for a double cerveza 15 euros other than 8 maxi like the bottle of Perrier 8 euros one location
Lovely hotel with pool. Good restaurant and very good staff.
Everything was very good except the dinners I ate in the Restaurant which were less good and not up to the standard of the rest of the homeland also below the standard I had previously experienced at the Hotel de France.
Friendly hotel but no hot water and no help transferring suitcases to another room. Refusal to let us access the restaurant even for a cold plate within 5 minutes…
Absolutely brilliant.
Great room superb experience having a drink on the terrace outside and a superb meal. A great spot
It’s a great hotel with a very good restaurant. The only fault I found was the bathroom was a bit of a compromise and the shower very hot!
Don’t like shower in bath
We stayed for 1 night en-route through France. Visually nice hotel, small and family-run. We were very much looking forward to staying at owing to it's fabulous motoring history. We arrived about 4:30 pm. The room allocated was in the annexe and whilst it looked okay, the condition was poor. The room smelt musty and within 30 minutes it was clear the air conditioning was not functioning at all. The room was on the ground floor and the windows opened straight out onto the pavement, so it was difficult to ventilate the room without being completely visible to passers by! I raised the A/C problem with the hotel manager in Reception asked could he fix this or offer another room? He investigated the master control in the hotel reception and said it was working, but to wait 30 minutes for it to work correctly. I agreed with this, but after 2 hours it was clearly not functioning at all. Nothing on the display panel and no fan noise. When I passed by Reception and the manager didn't enquire with me about the A/C I decided not to waste any more time chasing up the issue. Nice place, spoiled by no interest in customer care.
Beautifully decorated hotel with a strong motor racing history. Evening meal was well cooked and wine selection reasonably priced.
WiFi signal was poor in bedroom but to be expected in an old stone building
Wish there was a small meal or snack option, especially at lunch time , inside or out
Very nice stay
A very enjoyable stay in an historic hotel
The hotel was easy to find and we managed to park outside. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
Cozy hotel with confusing decor, if we can put it that way, the bar restaurant section (for lunch and breakfast) is covered with photos of great car racers who have stayed in this hotel. The rooms with their old-fashioned decoration are very comfortable and full of nostalgia. The restaurant is welcoming with its white tablecloths. The unique menu is a little expensive in our opinion but the dishes are very good and the service is perfect. A small note: it would be better to install a rigid stair railing, rather than a rope, to climb the steep staircase leading to the bedrooms
Absolutely great all round.
A great family run traditional hotel. Rooms spacious, clean and well equipped.Very friendly ad helpful staff. Great food. Can't fault it.
Being a Le Mans 24 hr race fan since the late 1950's I really wanted to stay at this hotel, but it seems as though it is now resting on it's laurels from a bygone day. The room, at 122 euros, was smaller and more tired than I would expect at this price point for a March stay. There was no soap in the bathroom, just the empty box (I guess no-one had checked it. The room was cold as was central heating radiator was cold and there was a portable oil filled radiator that didnt seem to work either. We opened the curtains in the morning to find the windows running with condensation, the glass being single glazed.
The biggest dissapointment was the evening meal. My wfe ordered monk fish as a main. The portion was very small! I ordered a steak cooked 'a point' (pink in the middle). I was told it was filet. It arrived very much over cooked. They took it away and another arrived. It was tough! I suggested this was not filet, to which the waitress said they had run out and this was not filet.....yet I had paid for filet!! At 44 euros a head I expected better. The wine too was expensive at 38 euros a bottle.
On this trip we had already stayed in a comparable (3 star) hotel on Dieppe seafront. It was warmer, awith a far more comfortable bed and spacious room for 87 euros.
The glory of this hotel is as faded as the old motor racing photographs on the lounge walls. I would not recommend it!
A comfortable hotel with tasteful decoration, the staff is welcoming and friendly, I recommend it, it's a stop not to be missed.
Very nice hotel, we had a wonderful time!!
The rooms are exceptional. We had a 4 poster bed with matching furniture. The restaurant had a good choice of meals with excellent service. The staff were exceedingly friendly
This hotel was recommend to me and I will certainly not hesitate to recommend it to others!!
Very comfortable hotel. Breakfast a little expensive
