Your first stop will undoubtedly be the Saint-Philibert abbey church, a masterpiece of Romanesque art. Admire the impressive dimensions of its interior, from its dazzling light to its vaults and pillars. The medieval mosaics, crypt and chapel of Saint-Michel will also transport you back in time.
The Hôtel-Dieu, Musée Greuze, is also a must-see. Its three wards and remarkable apothecary reveal the history of Tournus' hospitals. Then wander through the historic centre of Tournus, a maze of picturesque narrow streets lined with houses with colourful facades. Finish off with a visit to the Musée du Vélo.
What's more, the Hôtel de Greuze is the ideal starting point for discovering the riches of Burgundy. Take the blue route along the Saône to cycle to Mâcon, or hike through the heart of the Burgundy vineyards. The hotel is recognised as a cycling centre and offers electric bike hire.
The history of this hotel dates back to medieval times, on the town's ramparts.
The Philbertine monks, fleeing Viking incursions from Noirmoutier, took refuge here on 19 April 875, bringing with them the precious relics of Saint Philibert. These events subsequently gave the abbey its illustrious name, under the protective aegis of Charles II, known as the Bald. Thanks to his generosity, they received the monastery, the castrum and the very heart of Tournus as a gift.
In the past, the hotel served as the presbytery of Saint-Philibert Abbey, establishing an indestructible link with this religious establishment.
Over the centuries, the abbey has stood the test of time and the tumult of conflict. Rebuilt at the end of the first millennium, its rehabilitation extended into the 12th century, testifying to its historical importance.
As for the hotel, after having been home to several prominent families, it fell into disrepair until it was bought in 1985. The then owner undertook major renovation work. He succeeded in preserving the charm and authenticity of the premises, with elegant furnishings and decor. Today, the new owners aim to add a touch of modernity, while respecting the heritage that has remained unchanged since that time.
Finally, the name of the hotel pays tribute to the famous French painter and draughtsman Jean-Baptiste Greuze, a native of Tournus. His art, a reflection of his genius, is on display at the Musée Greuze.

Very pleasant stay
Beautiful hotel, very convenient off the highway while being close to the beautiful Saint Philibert Abbey. Small room and bathroom a little dated but quality bedding. There are larger rooms, advertised at reception at the price of the one we paid on booking… so average value for money.
We have stayed here before & we very much like the hotel. It is dog friendly, which is very important for us! A great stopover on our way further south!

Booked a more expensive "Upper" room with high expectations, don't get me wrong the hotel was plush but we expected better. Room was comfortable but expected it to be larger with more wardrobe capacity and the A/C heating didn't react to any changes we made to the temp. The bathroom/WC was cramped with a dripping basin tap and the tea bags weren't replenished on day 2! The breakfast was excellent but rather expensive none the less.
We have stayed here many times and as usual it was very comfortable and the service was excellent

Vast tapijt in de kamer, waar ik minder van hou. Minder praktische badkamer. (bad, klein). Toiletartikelen aanwezig. Kraaknet. Rustig. Bewaakte parking voor de deur. Zeer vriendelijke dame tijdens het uitchecken. We hebben geen gebruik gemaakt van het ontbijt.
