I stayed for an overnight stay and was very satisfied with the welcome and the food. The staff were very friendly. Everything was perfect. The room, the dinner. I would happily return.
There is a discrepancy between the photos on the website and the room offered. Bathroom with a narrow shower and a broken fan heater. The rather dark room was located above the bar and the swinging door on the ground floor echoes in the room. On the plus side, the meal and the service in the restaurant are impeccable.

We had a great dinner and a perfect overnight stay - absolutely quiet, comfortable and super clean.

We are generally satisfied. However, we have the following criticisms: No water pressure in the room on the 4th floor. Breakfast: no rye or spelt bread or gluten-free for allergy sufferers. Breakfast price too high, especially for children. A price between 6 and 8 euros for children under 15 would be reasonable. A breakfast price for children under 15 would be between 6 and 8 euros reasonable. We were very satisfied with the brasserie-

Hotel right in the center, easy to access and excellent restaurant!
The room overlooked a square & a busy main road. As there was no air conditioning we had to have the window open, which made it noisy in the night. The room was quite echo-y & the ceiling was high & there was very little in the room to soften the sound.

Absolutely great place for sleeping and for eating
The welcome was adequate - we were given our key to the room and told it was across the road and not in the actual restaurant/hotel premises, however, we weren't told that if you go to your room after a certain time that you need a passcode to get through the entrance door. Luckily some staff were still in the restaurant and they told us the code. There were a lot of young people working in the bar and even though we tried to speak to them in French the best we could, if we asked something in English they said "we don't understand" - can't believe that French teenagers can't speak more than a bit of pigeon English!!! The staff in the restaurant were a lot more amenable.
We had already stayed at the Hotel Cheval Rouge twice before our third visit. I had booked the room 10 months in advance and the confirmation said: Upper room. We were given the wheelchair accessible room on the ground floor. Window at ground level with the sidewalk of the main road, cars drove past 2 meters from the room, window pane covered with film so that no one could see into the room from the sidewalk. Since it was very warm in Sainte-Menehould that weekend, it would have been nice to open the window at night. However, this was not possible because people kept talking past the window during the night and the cars driving past sounded like a jet in the room. Sleeping was impossible. At 6 a.m. we were also disturbed twice in the morning by the kitchen staff from the kitchen directly adjacent to the room with loud banging and rumbling. There is only a plasterboard wall between the kitchen counter and the room. Our short stay in this room was simply awful, annoying, and the disabled room made us feel uncomfortable. The first thing we had to do when we moved into the room was organize toilet paper. It's a shame, but we'll definitely never return to this hotel.
Very spacious room (2 adults, 2 children). Comfortable bedding. Quiet location.
Good evening stopover. The waitress/receptionist upon arrival was excellent and very professional. The only downside was the TV in the room, which was placed on the wardrobe; it was too high when you were lying down.

We had given up hope of finding a hotel and were accepted at 11pm with a lovely helpful welcome. Beautifully clean room. Lovely staff. We will go back again on our travels.
Good room. Nice shower but bathroom had poor ventilation. Excellent choice of Bistro or restaurant. Very much enjoyed the Bistro. Hotel has s good location.
The staff are really nice, the room is comfortable, and the food is excellent.
This is a traditional inn in the centre of Ste. Menehould, right by the very pretty main Square with the 1730 Town Hall and museum.
You can park free in the square so that is very convenient. The Inn has expanded into more modern accommodation on both sides of the road.
The Argonne hills are pretty and have interesting things to see including special churches at Lachalade (Cistercian abbey) and l'Epine (flamboyant gothic basilica), and remnants of important WW1 battles. All the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.
