Description

The château de la Tremblaye, a work by the famous architect René Hodé, was built in 1862 on the site of the Battle of Cholet where Lescure, the great Vendée leader was mortally wounded. 1793: Vendée rose up, Lescure, the great Vendée leader was arrested and mortally wounded in Tremblaye, and the 15th century castle was burned. In 1862, a wealthy industrialist from Saumur, a rosary manufacturer, entrusted the construction of a new castle to the famous architect from Anjou, René Hodé. The Count of Choulot designed the park. In 1936, the family donated the Tremblaye to the Brothers of St. Gabriel who set-up a juvenate there. In 1977, the castle became a restaurant, and then in 1997 major renovations were undertaken in order to open a boutique hotel. The Château de la Tremblaye offers the charm and tranquillity of a country hotel on the outskirts of the city. You will appreciate the charm of the private rooms for family meals, weddings, business meetings or seminars. In the restaurant, Thierry Guimard, Maitre Cuisinier de France, and his team prepare inventive gastronomic cuisine with local products, and in summer, meals can be served on the terrace. Each room is decorated according to a different style or era, while having the latest technology with Wi-Fi, Internet, Canal satellite connections and a flat screen TV

The beds are in character but not comfortable. Large modern beds or matresses would be a major improvement.

For the price and the standing, I think the hotel should provide bathrobes, it would help with the 'castle' feel. It is available in most cheaper hotels with no charm at all!

Also, it would be great if we could visit parts of the hotel. we were alone in the hotel on sunday night (with only one staff member who stayed for us) and everything was closed off. it was a bit disconcerting. The chapel should be open for viewing. Talking with the owner and having a bit of the history of the hotel would be nice too!

When we arrived, it was raining (actually the whole time) and the parking lot could have used more pebbles because all our stuff and shoes were totally muddy.

Finally, a better picture decoration in the rooms would be nice. What we had was not themed with the hotel and looked like a thorn. Better nothing than that. Or old maps, pictures of the area, old pix of the castle....

Other than that, we LOVED our stay. The room was enormous, and we really had the feeling of being royalty. I loved the heavy long curtains, and will reproduce it in my next decoration project. The bathroom was very nice, and the view to the tower was delightful.

We will definitely be back!

Upon arrival we ( 62 and 69 years old) had to carry our luggage to the second floor in an old chateau - that's at least 3-4 stories in a normal house - we were offered NO help with the luggage!
